Rocky Point Puerto Penasco, Mexico Information
Rocky Point Information
Rocky Point Mexico is also known as Puerto Penasco. There are
several large communities of Americans that have houses and condos
in Rocky Point. Las Conchas, Sandy Beach, and Cholla Bay are the
main communities all considered part of Rocky Point. See below for
more detailed info on the communities and areas in Rocky Point
including distance of each community from town.

To get to Rocky Point drive to Gila Bend, Arizona then south on AZ 85
through Why, Arizona then on to the Arizona Border town of Lukeville. As
you cross the border you will be in the town of Sonoyta. From there, it is
about 60 miles or about a one hour drive to Rocky Point.

Gas Prices in Mexico in general and gas prices and Rocky Point
Mexico are much cheaper than the US right now.  At this printing gas
prices in the USA were $4.15 per gallon for 87 octane unleaded
gasoline.  In Mexico it is about $2.50 per gallon and the quality is just
as good.  Come to Mexico with just enough gas to arrive and fill up
before you leave.  You will save money by buying your gas in Mexico.

Rocky Point has a healthy fishing market with the shrimp season being
from September through April.

Rocky Point is a popular Spring Break destination and with the weather
being so good for about 9 months of the year it is popular with families
almost year around.

The most popular months are March through June and October
through November. Many families like to spend Christmas and New
Years in Rocky Point too. The low season is  January/ February and
August/ September except for Labor day which is a very busy holiday.

Passports. You do not need a passport at this time. What you do

Communities in Rocky Point

Las Conchas a 7 mile long community along the beach with guard
gate and security.  Many large estate homes on a beautiful sandy
beach.  Close to town; only 3 miles from the center of town.  Most
homes are either beach front, second row, third or 4th row from the
water. All within easy walking distance to the water.  Most have great
ocean views.

Cholla Bay an eclectic mix of homes.  This was the first American
community in Rocky Point.  There is a  combination of both rocky
beaches and sandy beaches depending on the exact home. If you rent
on the bay side the bay empties out a long way at low tide exposing a
lot of nice sandy beach for different activities.

Sandy Beach is where all the high rise condos are. This used to be the
main camping area that many spring breakers from years past will
remember.  There is still a small area where you can camp in rocky
point.

East Beaches.  About 20-30 miles from town.  East beaches include
playa encanto, playa la jolla, and playa Dorado.  Electricity is mostly
solar and therefore many homes do not have air conditioning in the
east beaches.

Mayan Palace time share resort is about 30 minutes from rocky point
and is in the east beaches area.

Mirador is in town near Manny's. It is a nice sandy beach at high tide
exposing many rocky tide pools at low tide.

Click on the buttons on the above left for more information on rocky
Point Mexico which is also known as Puerto Penasco Mexico  You have
come to the right place for Puerto Rentals, Puerto Travel or more
formally called Puerto Penasco Travel.  Some people misspell the
name Puerto Panasco.  Puerto Penasco beach is a beautiful place for
you to enjoy.  When you come to Puerto Mexico you will find white sandy
beaches and beautiful sunny weather with only 2 inches of annual
rainfall.

Restaurants

Most of the reviews below come from La Critica which maintains a web site
called restaurantsinrockypoint.com.  I only chose restaurants from their web
site that have a minimum of 4 people giving the reviews.  I added a few
restaurants from my own opinions that I think are good and I frequent often
when I am  in rocky point.

Restaurant                        # of Reviews         Review Quality
El Capitan                                  6                            6/7 stars

Port Fino                                     4                                 7/7
Lapa-Lapa                                 8                                 6/7

I have eaten at everyone of these restaurants except Rosies donuts, The
Reef, Blue Marlin and Lapa-Lapa.  I have heard good things about those
restaurants.  I think MOAB burgers should be rated higher.

Some of my favorites that are missing from la critica are: The BOO bar where
they make you anything you want located in old port.
Capones Italian food run by three American partners. Pizza and wings and
they brew their own beer. Located by my beach condos on Sinaloa.
Vaca Chenta.  Great Birria(shredded beef in a red chile).  Tacos only $1.20
with a lot of meat on them. Located on the main B Juarez blvd. Just south of
Burger King.  Did I mention Burger King.  Recently built in Rocky Point.
Balboas.  Located on the water in the harbor near the pirate ship.  Great
Choriza and eggs.
Manny's  Located on the water (beach) and walking distance from my beach
condos.  Great breakfast lunch and dinner.
Sonoran Sky  Luxury breakfast buffet authentic Mexican dishes for only $8.50.
Rocky Point boating and rocky point fishing trips are abundant.  Fishing can
be had same day with the local panga fisherman and larger sport fishing
boats.  There are scuba diving charters with Hammer Scuba. During March
thru may you can take a sail boat charter on my boat or year around you can
go with Del Mar Charters, or rockypointboattrips.com.  For the sunset cruises
you can have your choice of at least 5 boats.  The Intrepid, The Fiesta
Cruiser, The Carnaval and the Rey del Mar pirate boat.  The pirate boat is by
far the best for families.  You get entertainment for the whole family.  The
Fiesta Cruiser is the worst of the boats.  It is older and run down and more
for the younger spring breakers who just want to drink a lot and don't care
what the boat looks like. The Carnaval is very clean and a good buy for the
money. You can take your own boat too.
Rocky Point Beach and often mispelled as Puerto Panasco.
